Albrecht von Wallenstein, the imperial general of the Thirty Years’ War, cleared some two dozen houses to build his palace and its garden in the 1620s. The garden kept its early baroque plan: bronze statues (copies; the Swedes took the originals in 1648), a pond, an aviary and the sala terrena, a huge open loggia.
Look for the dripstone wall, full of grotesque faces hidden in the stone, and the peacocks wandering between the hedges. The palace is now the Czech Senate.
