Peter Parler designed the tower as a triumphal gate for the coronation processions crossing into the Old Town. Its east face is a gallery of Gothic sculpture: Charles IV and his son Wenceslas IV, the patron saints of Bohemia, and the coats of arms of the lands they ruled.
